What
people say...
I have just come from a concert by a young lady named Johnnie Proby,
a skilled vocalist on her way up the scary ladder of success. She has
done her homework and is now well placed as a mature singer with an
excellent voice, a sparkling and appealing presence and and interesting
style. Always singing a good song, Johnnie also sprinkles her delivery
with occasional nods to the great jazz singers of the past lending a
sweet sense of fun to her singing. Act? Yes I believe she can, as is
necessary of every singer worthy of the name. I heard her deliver one
of the simplest we know, Mel Torme’s “The Christmas Song”
and I swear it was the first time I heard it. I think that says it all.
